The long ridge on the either side of the peak seems like arm of a mother that is Ama in Nepali protecting her child and a hanging glacier on its neck seems to appear like Dablam which means a traditional double-pendant containing pictures of the gods, worn by Sherpa women. Ama Dablam was first ascended by a team lead by Sir Edmund Hillary on 13th of March, 1961.

Normally Ama Dablam expedition is done via its South- West ridge. Ama Dablam expedition starts after you take a flight from Kathmandu to Lukla and then trek all the way along the beautiful Everest region trekking route for five to six days. You start trekking from Lukla en route you visit the famous Tengboche monastery, acclimatize at Namche Bazaar, explore the glaciers and experience the culture and lifestyle of the Himalayan dwellers (Sherpa peoples). You trek up to the Base camp 4770 meters, and start climbing the peak.
